08/10/2026 – United States – Iran: Trump considers new attacks ahead of midterm elections, oil and gas price hike continues – Read more news

GAS & POWER: Gas prices continue to rise this morning, once again exceeding the 80 €/MWh mark on the TTF front-month. The number of attacks on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz has reached its highest since the beginning of the conflict, while yesterday evening an incident was reported off the coast of Qatar – significant as it was outside the Strait and in the Gulf area. Rumors of a possible new American military offensive before the midterm elections, and Trump's backtracking in discussions with Tehran then bring a new risk premium to the market. Finally, the development of Hurricane Isaias continues to be observed, which is expected to only marginally affect liquefaction terminals, but still slow down operations throughout the area.

OIL: Crude oil prices are being supported by the return of military tension in the Gulf, amid renewed attacks on ships –not just those transiting the Strait of Hormuz– and rumors of a possible resumption of the American military offensive. Meanwhile, members of the International Energy Agency's board have supported the early release of 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil inventories – these are therefore not additional volumes but a time delay on what was agreed last March. Hurricane Isaias, expected to impact the U.S. coast between Friday and Saturday, led to the closure of some offshore platforms in the area – about 25% of total national production – offering further support for rising prices
