Episode n.116 of 30/06/2026 – The Energy Call

In episode 116 of The Energy Call, we discussed, amongst other things, the following topics:
  • Publication by the single purchaser of the operational manual on operator allocation and the service relating to the replacement of the operator management service.
  • Publication by ARERA of Resolution 213 concerning the approval of the consolidated text on the quality of electricity and natural gas supply services, with effect from 1 January 2027.
  • Commentary on ARERA’s DCO 222 concerning the proposal for a conventional cap on gas prices for electricity producers using CCGT and OCGT plants, and the effects of this mechanism on Italian spot markets.
On the gas markets front, yet another escalation – with the first breaches of the MoU signed just ten days ago – has brought shipping traffic through the Strait to a standstill once again, pushing gas prices to their highest levels since last week. On the fundamentals front, Europe is seeing the end of the second heatwave of the season; however, temperatures are expected to remain above average for the first two decades of July as well, particularly in the Mediterranean region, keeping demand high for cooling purposes. In Italy, the first auction for the sale of gas held in reserve as a last resort was largely unsuccessful, with only 1.4 million cubic metres being allocated out of a total supply of over 200 million cubic metres.
