GAS & POWER: The European Parliament is expected to vote today on the plan to ban Russian gas, both in liquid and gaseous form, to be implemented in two different phases starting in the second quarter of next year. Approval does not require an absolute majority, and in the meantime Hungary and Slovakia have already said they are ready to challenge the ban in the Court of Justice. Energy Minister Dan Jorgensen has ruled out the possibility of a return of supplies from Moscow even if a peace agreement is reached.

OIL: Prices rebounded sharply this morning after a session dominated by selling that pushed prices below the $60/bbl threshold. The market was supported by yet another twist in the US-Venezuela saga overnight. President Trump announced a blockade of any oil tankers already sanctioned and seen entering Caracas' maritime territory. Questions now arise about the potential supply-side effect of this decision, as well as the possibility of further escalation in relations between the two countries.
