16/06/2026 – Ichthys LNG: Strikes lead to halving operations at half the plant – Read more news

GAS & POWER: Compared to the initial rumors, the signing of the memorandum between the United States and Iran was announced late yesterday afternoon, with the formal presentation expected on Friday. According to the agreements, this should lead to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the American naval blockade. More details will be released in the coming days, in parallel with the launch of the first technical discussions on the remaining open issues, with nuclear power at the forefront. During the negotiations, the United States will still maintain military forces in the area, ready to intervene in the event of further escalations.

Less than forty-eight hours after the Australian FWC rejected the suspension of strikes at the Ichthys plant, INPEX reportedly halted the operation of one of the plant's two liquefaction trains, Reuters reported. The inability to load LNG carriers at standard rates due to workers' protests and the achieved filling of storage units used as buffers are the determining factors. Meanwhile, the union has announced the extension of strike action until July 2nd.
