GAS & POWER: Over the weekend, yet another breakthrough came on the situation in the Middle East, with US President Trump calling the response from Iranian diplomacy totally unacceptable. Tehran would have called for an immediate halt to hostilities, a lifting of the American naval blockade in parallel with the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and finally greater concessions on the nuclear program. Oil and gas prices are rising – the latter partly held back by the apparent passage of two LNG carriers from the Strait.

The QatarEnergy-owned LNG carrier AL KHARAITIYAT successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, heading towards the Pakistani port of Port Qasim — the first transit of a Qatari LNG vessel since the conflict began on February 28. The move, approved by Tehran as a gesture of confidence in Pakistan —the main mediator in recent weeks—, offers a sign of partial easing for the country, which may decide to reduce scheduled activity on spot markets. According to Reuters, a second LNG carrier, the MIHZEM, could follow the same destination in the next few hours. However, the conditions for a regular trade flow remain distant.
