GAS & POWER: The date of 25 April 2026 is approaching, when, according to the European Union’s plan to phase out Russian gas, supplies linked to both spot and short-term contracts – those with a duration of less than one year entered into before 17 June 2025 – must cease. Yesterday, however, Moscow reiterated its willingness to increase gas deliveries to Europe, finding support from ENI’s CEO, who expressed serious concern about the interruption of these supplies at a time of global energy crisis.

OIL: The situation remains tense regarding the Strait of Hormuz. After trading in triple-digit territory for much of yesterday’s session, reports of fresh diplomatic overtures led to a wave of profit-taking, despite the announcement of the US naval blockade. However, this appears to have already been breached by the passage of the Chinese-flagged oil tanker Rich Starry, registered in Malawi.
