GAS & POWER: The number of incidents recorded in the Strait of Hormuz is rising, with at least four new cases in the last two days and the sinking of a Singapore-flagged container ship. Recent developments are significantly diverting the chances of a new rapprochement between the United States and Iran before the next midterm elections – a date set as a watershed moment for the US administration to resolve the conflict.

EQUITY: In the United States, annual inflation in September accelerated to +3.7% from +3.4% in the previous two months, beating analysts' expectations (+3.6%). Energy prices drove the climb. The CPI grew by 0.6% month-on-month, the highest deviation in five months. Operators were also surprised by core inflation, so they expected a slowdown and instead saw an increase to +2.6% (compared to the +2.4% expected). Markets reacted lower, with losses on Wall Street of ’1%, and well above this morning on Asian markets (-5% Japan, -8% South Korea), as Europe nears last week's lows.
