GAS & POWER: Commodity prices remain at their highest levels in three weeks after diplomacy showed yet another sign of stalemate and no progress was made in discussions between Oman and Iran. Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar are now aiming to renew the Memorandum, which is due to expire on August 18, but was already considered “dead” by the US administration just under a month ago. Meanwhile, there is a further partial increase in transits of oil tankers and some LNG carriers with their transponders turned off, a further sign of the difficulty of the negotiations.

OIL: U.S. crude oil inventories posted record growth in the week ending Friday, August 7, rising more than 17 million barrels, the highest since January 2023. A collapse in exports, which reached their lowest levels since November 2025, accompanied by an increase in imports are the factors that supported the recovery of reserves.
